Martin (Marty) Treacy RIP
It was with sadness that we learned this morning of the passing of a great Gael and a founding member of the St Gabriel's Hurling Club.
Martin (Marty) Treacy RIP died peacefully in Portiuncula hospital, Ballinasloe, County Galway. On behalf of all members of St Gabriel's, we extend our condolences to his brother Willie (USA), his nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Reposing at the Sacred Heart Funeral Home, Kilconnell on Monday evening 6th March from 5pm with removal at 8pm to the Sacred Heart Church, Kilconnell. Funeral Mass on Tuesday 7th March at 12 noon and burial afterwards in Kilconnell New Cemetery.
Marty returned home to Ireland twenty years ago after spending most of his life in London. By all accounts, he was a very humble and quiet man and only talked about what he had achieved when drawn out. Marty was very proud of St. Gabriel's and how they turned out from the humble little get-togethers in his house at St. Margaret's Road, Kensal Green in the 60's to the well known club of today. Please refer to the club history page for an in depth account of the early days as written by his good friend, the late P J Noone.
